Reagan's 2nd Birthday

March 5, 2019

Several days before one of my angel babies birthdays or death anniversaries is coming my heart feels heavy, which I'm sure is normal for a bereaved parent.

I believe this flower is called Canterbury Bells White Campanula. So neat looking. I got it for Reagan.

My sister Claudia has always remembered the babies birthdays. She sent me this beautiful bouquet in remembrance of Reagan. My parents called me to tell me they were commemorating Reagan too. It makes me happy that Reagan is acknowledged.

I got a key lime pie (my favorite pie), added two little candles and we sang happy birthday.

Riley still gets emotional. He came along the few obgyn appointments I had and saw and heard Reagan's heartbeat. He was so excited for baby Reagan and was looking forward to having a baby brother to play with and look after.
Sadness, longing, loss, and the what could have been will always remain in me for the rest of my life. I don't feel these emotions on a daily basis though. As much as I love my babies I don't want to wallow in despair. That type of thinking is not healthy, mentally or emotionally. God has blessed me abundantly and continues to do so and I want to make sure to live a life of gratitude no matter the trials that I have endured.
However, I write these posts because it's important I remember Reagan and Lincoln. Doing this is healing. Each day that passes is a day closer to seeing them both. What a wonderful day that will be.

When you lose a child you are haunted with a lifetime of wonder.

Reagan's Garden

I want to commemorate Reagan as much as I can. I need to see things that will physically remind me of him so back in late April Jacob and I bought a planter and turned it into a sweet garden for my baby boy. His special place.
Every day I peek out the blinds and greet him. It's so crazy how much I miss him and sometimes when I find myself getting irritable, annoyed or simply not being very nice I later realize it's because of my grief. I guess sometimes my grief does get bottled up inside because I don't want to spend hours crying especially not in front of my kids. I just feel that my grief should be done when I'm alone. That's like having one on one time with Reagan and I think he deserves that from me.
The flowers have grown so much since taking this picture.
It's hard to see a pregnant woman sometimes and it's definitely harder when I see a baby that would have been the same age as Reagan. I believe this will always affect me and it'll cut deep once again each time this happens to me. That's just how it is and how it always will be.

Reagan would be close to being four months old (due date was set for March 5,17). On Instagram I had been honoring Reagan's memory every 26 day of each month (he passed away on Aug. 26,16) but I'm thinking that now that his birth date has passed I want to start honoring his memory on every 5th day of each month instead. I want to celebrate his life now because after all he is very much alive in heaven with Jesus.

The other day Riley said he missed baby brother. He will say this every now and then but this time when he said it -it happened to be the 26th. Then yesterday he said he missed Libby. Libby died on April 28, 16. This trips me out. I guess they're right when they say that children can sense things. I'm pretty sure part of it has to do with their innocence. But what if he has a sixth sense? I think that would be cool. If he has a sixth sense then God gave him that for a reason. Now I'm even more interested in what Riley will end up doing with his life.

Perseverance. A refusal to give up is one of the symptoms of confidence, and thankfully, confidence can be yours in Christ. Keep doing what you believe to be the right thing for you, and eventually you will enjoy the breakthrough you desire.

I continue to read faith based books. Honestly, reading these books keeps me humble and I love it when I can get ideas from them on how to be a better person and how to make my life even more meaningful and fun. Which is not to say that I don't read my bible because I do but sometimes the bible can become a bit overwhelming to read.
I've been on a kick in reading books that are still faith based but intertwined with nature and since I do love going on walks and hiking and I definitely love cloudy windy weather, flowers and trees it just made sense to get into these type of books. After all God is the maker of all beautiful things.
Once Riley's at school I do enjoy my time alone. Gosh but time goes by so fast when I immerse myself in my books or blogging. I don't watch my movies as often as I used to anymore because I'm usually reading. I have to force myself to stop reading because there are other things I like to do like crocheting. I'm working on a throw blanket right now but I gotta admit I haven't worked on it for about a month and I'm also working on another project that has to do with hanging lights and I haven't touched that in about two months. I like having at least 2-3 projects to work on besides reading. Remember, I like variety, this way I wont ever get bored.
I'm also slowly and I mean very slowly working on Riley's playroom which will no longer ONLY be his playroom but also a gaming/tv area ... but it'll mostly still be his space though.

I told my sister Claudia about Reagan's garden and she sent money for flowers for whenever the old ones die. I still have the money and Reagan's garden is looking full of color and very nice.

In Remembrance of Reagan

April 28th, 17
Eight months since your little heart stopped beating.
I may say this often but losing you still hurts and it will forever hurt. Only the ones that have lost a child will understand the depth of our pain.

My grief journey has no one destination. I will not
"get over it". The understanding that I don't have to be
done is liberating. I will mourn Reagan's death for
the rest of my life.

We love you!

Grateful for Simple Pleasures

What are some of the things that you can physically see which bring you peace and joy?

There is so much beauty in the world but I always find myself going back to the water. Mountains can be beautiful and I've seen some very pretty desert sunsets however I would never trade the mountains over the ocean. The smell of the sea, the sound the waves make, and seeing the vastness of the water while I stand on the chore is just so impressive and calming to me. Especially when the sky is cloudy or as the sun is setting, these views are breathtaking. I cannot help but to watch in awe. The other physical things that I deem beautiful are Autumn and then flowers.
One thing I love to see is Jacob being a father to our children. Riley has a special bond with his daddy, just like our other children do as well. Reagan would have fit perfectly into our family. It's so sad to never have the opportunity to love on him and to grow together. Big brother Riley would have been the most loving, overprotective, and playful brother to him. Our lives would definitely have been so different right now and it is during dark days that I find the extra peace that I need when I'm by the water.

Nathan is changing right before my eyes. He's almost as tall as me and I have a feeling he'll pass me up by the end of summer. A few weeks back he decided to go for a whole new look. This year he'll be 17 so naturally he wants to look older. Hopefully he'll continue to be easy going.
These two get along so well and I think that's really sweet ... but you wont find them talking sweet to each other though. They're always goofing around and at times are a bit rough when they verbally joke around. I have to sometimes remind them that they have a six year old that is constantly watching what they do and listening to their every word. I either give them THE  look or I say "hey" and they know to stop.
It's been a fun journey with these two. I thank God that all in all Sydna and Nathan are great kids and as Sydna matures I am seeing a lot of myself in her. I will never stop praying for my children. I fervently pray for my family and in great detail and I am slowly learning to trust Him in all things. I still have a lot of growing to do myself but I'm hoping that my children see the things I've overcome since getting closer to God. I don't care to impress anyone. I'm here to care for my husband, children and loved ones and to live my life in a way that pleases God. All the choices I make I base on biblical principles and I want my children to see that I stand firm on those principles and try to do so with compassion.

Cats. Where do I begin with these annoying, loving, hilarious, don't mess with me attitude felines. I love watching cat videos on Instagram and Facebook, they truly have me laughing. I love their company. I would say I'm a bit like a cat myself. Cats like solitude, they're very observant, they love to nap and when they're in need of love and affection they will seek company for a bit ... then it's back to being by themselves, enjoying their own company. It takes little to make them happy.
I've loved cats since I was a little girl and I've had one ever since.
Sophie got between the blankets when I was making the bed. She didn't stay covered for long.

Reading.
Well, it's no secret I'm a book lover. I've got over 900 books on my to-read list on Goodreads ... and the list keeps growing. Who knows if I'll get to read them all but it sure is exciting knowing there's good books out there, all for my enjoyment and spiritual growth. I have 98 of those on my to-read list sitting on the floor next to my nightstand. Maybe I'll get to buy a bookcase for my bedroom soon.
Sydna also loves to read, she's more into fiction though. She had been telling me about a series she wanted me to read called, The Beyonders and just by looking at the cover I knew it was a book that I really didn't want to read but because she urged me nonstop I finally agreed.
The beginning was very slow and it wasn't until halfway through the book where I felt it got a bit interesting. The second part of the book was fine but I hated the ending. No closure at all in anything and not to mention it took me almost the entire month of April to read it. There's two more books left to read in this series. I told her I would read two of mine before I got started on the second book.

Crafts and coloring.
I enjoy doing crafts with Riley and I also enjoy coloring. Riley is the type of boy that prefers to play or do things with others, he seldom does arts & crafts or play on his own. He says it's boring but I urge him to try it and that playing by himself can be very enjoyable. I want to teach him that he shouldn't rely on people for his happiness, at least not all the time.
Well one day he decided on his own to color one of his ninja turtle coloring pages. He's an interesting boy. Whenever he colors he likes to use a multitude of colors. I actually liked the way it turned out. He's got an interesting imagination. He told me that he was going to give this coloring page to his teacher. I had to take a picture of it before he put it in his backpack.

And for Easter his class made bonnets and hats. Parents donated spring items. I got his class fake flowers and crinkle grass. He was most proud of his Easter hat and still has it all in tact.

I don't let Sophie lay directly on my sheets but on this morning I did just to show you what she thinks of personal space, lol!! She doesn't have a clue what that is. She likes to have body contact. I swear sometimes I think she thinks she's a kid. I had to move her after a while since her butt was close to my face. I also washed my sheets shortly after. Can't stand pet dander.
I do enjoy and love her company though.

So these examples are but a glimpse of the multitude of simple pleasures that I get to enjoy time and time again.
I'm so thankful for all the simple things that bring me so much joy. Making time for myself to enjoy such things is extremely important for my spiritual well-being. I am very grateful for all the things I get to enjoy and I am most aware these joys have been made possible only because God has allowed them to be. It is extra sweet when I get to indulge in them when going through a trying season.

In Remembrance of Reagan

February 26th marked six months since we lost Reagan. Grief although heartbreaking is a beautiful feeling confirming that he was our living baby boy. Not every day is a sad day although I think of him always ... but on those days where grief hits me hard I allow myself to cry.
Reagan is so very loved and we miss him terribly. There are no rules when it comes to mourning. Grief, like love, is immeasurable.

I will welcome happiness for it enlarges
my heart; yet I will endure sadness
for it opens my soul.

In Memory of Reagan

The loss of Reagan has left a huge void in our hearts. We miss him daily and he's obviously in our thoughts from the moment we wake until we go to bed at night. It is so true when they say that grief comes in waves and out of nowhere. Sometimes a song or seeing a child his age can trigger one to have crying outbursts but then there's those times when there are no triggers and an overwhelming feeling of sadness just hits and the tears freely flow.
There are still times when I question, and the unfairness of losing Reagan is always present. It just cannot be avoided. I don't think it's got anything to do with having faith in God, I think it's just part of the grieving process.

Besides from acquiring mementos for Reagan I also wanted to do something that will help others. I want his name to be spoken, I want him to be thought of. So, every month for as long as I'm able to we will make donations to charities that are dear to my heart in memory of Reagan.

In January we donated to The Wounded Warrior Project.
In February we donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
In March we donated to March of Dimes.

Reagan gets a letter in the mail every month from the charities we donated to in his memory. Whenever we receive mail with his name on it -it brings a smile to my face.

I want to take this time to thank loved ones that remembered Reagan on what would have been his due date, March 5th. It means everything to us when you remember our angel. Thankful that even though he's not here with us you still remember him and acknowledge that he mattered and that he did live even if it was for a very short time. He is still part of our family, we are still a family of six. By remembering Reagan often you are letting us know that you love us so, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.

Grief is not a disorder, a disease, or a sign of weakness.
It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity, the
price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve.

Reagan's Birth Day

March 5, 2017 - Reagan's Due Date

I would have hoped this day would have been different. Instead of anticipating Reagan's birth with excitement and celebration we continued on our path of mourning him. Ever since we lost him on August 26, 2016, in a way I've dreaded each new day. Because each day that ended reminded me of how big Reagan would be growing if he was still alive. The closer it got to March 5th the saddest I would become.
I didn't really get a chance to buy him any baby clothes, toys, books or bottles but just these two swaddling blankets. These are the only baby items I have of Reagan's. Even without knowing back when I first purchased them that I would chose a fox to commemorate him. Funny how God is in the smallest of details.
Now Riley has the stripped blanket and I use the critter one which I place halfway over my pillow.

At church we got prayer from our pastor. Tears just naturally flowed. That was very sad.

I had Riley release a balloon. It was a very blustery winter day and although it was cold I liked being out here.

And we got our baby boy his very own birthday cake. We will celebrate his birthday every year just like we do for our living children. A very sentimental moment as we will miss a lifetime without Reagan here with us.

Riley wanted to blow out the candle for baby brother but at the last minute he couldn't keep it together. He broke down as we finished singing happy birthday so Jacob had to do it.

Grief, I've learned is really just love. It's all the love you want
to give but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners
of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part
of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.

Reagan,
you will forever be remembered!
You're in our every day.

We love you so much.

Valentine's Day 2017

This has been Sophie's favorite spot to lay down for some time now ... and just look at her arm, her pose is all human like. She sure makes us laugh. And lately Jacob has been talking to her early mornings asking her if she needs more food and water and Sophie meows back in return, and loud too. It's funny.

Someone was very busy a few days before Valentine's Day writing down all of his classmates names on each card. He had to take breaks after every third name. He was very excited about this holiday and looking forward to the Valentine's day party as well. He kept reminding us to make sure to be there.

After so many days of rain and cloudy weather we finally got an entire day of full sun so we headed out to a park along lake Washington. The sun felt so good. It was still quite cold out but the sun sorta balanced it out.

Jacob was off on Valentine's Day. After dropping Riley off at school we headed out for breakfast. Then we went to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory so I could get a caramel apple. Yum! After that we drove to Snoqualmie Falls to take in the view for a bit.
At home we exchanged cards and I also received flowers and perfume. He's the sweetest!

We got to Riley's school around 2:30 pm. They had already exchanged cards and were looking through all of them. It was nice seeing all the kids again. I volunteered for about three months and stopped in January. I wasn't feeling too well then so I decided to take a break. Maybe I'll volunteer again in the near future.

Riley sure loves having his daddy around.

I gave each of my kids a card and gift cards to their favorite restaurants. I bought Reagan fresh flowers for his special place. There's not a day when I don't think of him but it's double heartbreaking on a holiday. I was sad for him. For not having the chance for a healthy start at life, then my thoughts go back to that day when I saw him, held him for the first and last time. I remember every single feature. His fingers, his shoulders, his ears, feet, everything. It is so devastating.

Simple Pleasures of December

I'm not really a huge hot chocolate fan but when I do crave some I make sure I add lots of marshmallows to it. It tastes so good as you take a sip and they're melting.

December was a month of more tears, health concerns, fear, anxiety sprinkled with joy here and there.
First, Jacob had to fly out to San Diego for a day. I don't like it when he has to go away on business, however brief.
I had a lot of restless nights, little sleep and when I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes anxiety tries to creep in. It's also been so cold and we've gotten a lot more snow this December than we've had at least the past four years we've been here.
Whenever I'm using the computer up in my room Sophie likes to climb over my back and onto the desk. Well, she began to slide off my back once and her back claws dug into my back leaving an ugly scratch. That hurt like hell.
Sydna got sick with a cold. Thankfully no one else did.

I'm an organized person and I'm also good at multi-tasking and whenever I do something it has to be done in a particular order. For example, I wanted to get started on my Christmas cards. I thought I had bought enough cards but just before I began writing I glanced over at the list of people that I was sending cards out to and I realized that I had miscounted. I needed six more cards. Great! So, I didn't write any until I went to the store the following day to get more. Such a bummer.
I think Sophie secretly likes to be in pictures because she always seems to be in them at just the right time. I bet you if I would purposely put her in the picture she wouldn't have stayed put.

Remember when I mentioned several posts back that Sophie sits like a human? Well, here's a perfect picture to show you she does. What a silly cat!

See that moose stocking? That stocking used to be each one of my children's stocking from when they were babies until they were about ten years old. Now, it's Reagan's stocking and will be for a long time until I find a cute fox stocking for him. {But it has to be me to find one not anyone else.}

We enjoyed Advent a lot. Riley really took in the stories and bible verses. I found even more ways to make it more fun for him for next Christmas.

I colored quite a bit in December. I think I only have two pages left to color and I'm done with this one. Too bad too because I really like the simplicity of it. I really haven't come across any simple ones at stores. Their all so busy. I don't like that.

I got quite a bit more books last month. The stack of books I have next to my bed is getting out of control. I think I need to invest in a bookshelf for my "to read books" to put in. It's kinda hard to refrain from buying more books when there are sales and the books that I buy are actually books I have on my "to read list".

Riley asked for a ginger bread house so we picked one up at the store. Jacob helped him. Jacob put the house together and all the icing and Riley placed the candy on it.

Great team effort ... or at least that's what Riley says, lol.

And this cat. First annoyed look she's given me and got proof of. She totally reminded me of Libby and how often she would give me this same look, lol. I sure miss my Libby girl.
It's like if she's saying, "WHAT???!"

Riley likes for us to read him his animal encyclopedia/reference books and if you have one you'll know that these aren't really story books. We ask him to get story books and he always comes out with these ... makes me laugh because they take so long to get through.

And guess who had a first in a long time?

Someone lost his first tooth! The tooth fairy made a visit to our house that night. It actually took about a month from the very first time he felt it loose until it finally fell out. Once it became super loose he didn't want to eat, lol. He was all nervous and scared. Then just before bed on that particular night, he was brushing his teeth and that's when it happened. I heard him cry for a few minutes because of the blood he saw but he quickly stopped. Jacob was right next to him. I heard Jacob laugh and telling Riley he was fine.

My in-laws surprised us with a sweet memento. A decorative pillow with all of our children's name on it. Seeing Reagan's name made me smile. Thank you Gerry & Grace.
And here she is again ... photobombing a picture, lol. She's too much.

I got Sophie a Christmas hat and the brat didn't even want to look up. She just slouched her body on Nathan and wouldn't get up.

I must admit. I love Little Bear episodes. Sydna used to watch this show, then Nathan for a little while but Riley's the one that's watched it the most. Even Sydna still enjoys watching a few episodes. It's such a cute animated series. It's super cozy and non-violent and so fun to watch. Sometimes I find myself wanting to see an episode even if Riley is not with me at the time. I don't care. It's sweet. It's especially comforting to watch whenever I get fed up with all the bs liberal news/problems that's going on in our country.

Riley loves to play games with his dad and brother and he often asks to play them too.

My December was quiet but overwhelming however, I tried to keep things light and fun for all of our sake's. We've had enough tough times last year and we're hoping to see light at the end of the tunnel.

We continue to mourn or sweet baby boy. We remember him with fondness at times. I still sometimes question why, even though I know I will never get my answer.

Psalm 46:1  -  God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 94:19  -  When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy.
Meditating on verses like these have helped me overcome my setbacks.

In Remembrance of Reagan

November 26,16 was our baby boy's 3rd month death anniversary.  Always keeping vigil on his special days and on our own family special days ... always making sure he's included.

Although I open myself up some on social media about certain aspects of my life I still find it difficult to completely share of myself to others. Of course there will be some memories/things I'm going to keep private but I don't like to throw myself out there too much either. I follow a few other women on Instagram that have lost their babies and they are so ready to share their most private thoughts. I just can't do that. If I'm going to talk in lengths about a personal issue I like coming here, to my blog. It is this blog that my children will come back to throughout the years for memories sake so it only makes sense to remain honest about the happenings in our life on here.

These last couple of months left in the year continue to be challenging for me. Nothing that this year has brought me has been easy. This year I can honestly say that the bad have outweighed the good. Yes, I'm thankful for our health and everything else in my life but the few events that have happened to me {us} this year have been so traumatic that they've shattered our hopes about adding a new little person to our family.

I don't believe that as a grieving parent I'll ever be whole again. And what makes it even more of an impossibility is that I see so much of Reagan in Riley. As much as I love that so much it also breaks my heart all over again. And I believe Riley and Reagan have a strong bond with one another. Riley has been missing baby brother a lot lately. He's cried for him and often tells me that he misses baby Reagan. It is somewhat unfathomable really ... about how quickly Riley bonded with Reagan with only from a few weeks. But that's love. They're brothers and will have a forever connection.

Baby Reagan. You are so loved and thought of every single day. Although we cry for you often we are beginning to think of you with smiles instead of tears sometimes. I am now able to talk about you without having to stop from talking because of how painful it is to do so at times. But when I'm alone and at night in bed is when sadness really hits me hard and I cry for you. The pain from losing you feels like actual physical pain. I allow myself to cry for however long I need to. I always make sure to begin my day with a "good morning sweetheart" to you and I always end my day with telling you "I love you sweetheart, goodnight". We love you so much Reagan!

Tears cleanse the soul, and
grief validates the love you felt.

November News

Some of these pictures are from early November. A very tumultuous election for sure. Bottom line, I want was best for this great country and I am so thankful to God that He heard our prayers and the right candidate won. Amen to that!!

Missing Reagan has not subsided. I believe grief stays for a lifetime. Maybe the grief bouts become less frequent but when they do arise I believe they're just as profound. Sometimes it's a song that will get to me, other times are seeing pregnant women, other times is just watching Riley play that will make my eyes water. I have a strong feeling that Reagan would have looked a lot like Riley. I can still remember Reagan's little body on my hand. I stared at him for a long time. He's so precious.

I had not been getting good sleep probably because I'm going to bed too late. I like to read at night in bed and even though I do have a nightlight it's still somewhat dim so lately my eyes especially my left eye had been hurting. I can tell it's the nerve. I had been having eye pain for about a week so I finally scheduled an eye appt.
Everything came back good. I have 20/20 vision, eye pressure normal, I'm not seeing spots however the eye doctor did tell me that the bottom of my left eye appeared dry. I asked her if excessive crying could be the cause of it and she said that it was likely that crying was the reason. I gave her a brief explanation of what happened. As for the nerve pain she said that's caused by sinus and that I should go see my primary care doctor about it. Ugh! I've known I have allergies but I have never discussed them with my doctor. I guess I should now. I was also going through a lot of stress and I believe that could have contribute to how I was feeling at the time. Thankful that I haven't had eye pain for several weeks now.

A month after Riley came down with croup he still had a nagging cough but he would mostly start coughing in the middle of the night by this point, which was a bit irritating because his coughing would wake me up. His coughing bouts would last about fifteen minutes.

At this point things seemed to finally start to calm down. I ordered Riley several Christian activity books. A few of them we use as part of our advent family activity time. Riley is actually enjoying this new tradition.

I made my own advent calendar. Got some bible verses printed then glued them onto pretty Christmas card stock paper. I constantly try to make my home cozy. I like to light candles in pretty votives and brew fresh coffee while a Hallmark Christmas movie is on tv.

Riley painted a couple of Christmas tree ornaments to put on his little Christmas tree in his playroom. Right now he's very much into Spiderman so his color choices are red and blue. He insisted he wanted to paint one of his trees blue. Ok then.

Sophie also seeks being cozy. I know she doesn't look happy next to Riley but she also didn't try to run away. She likes to stay near me so sometimes she sacrifices her fear for Riley and stays put in order to sit right next to me and fall asleep.

I think she's so cute. When I talk to her in my high voice she tends to meow talk to me nonstop. I ask her if she wants treats and she'll meow. I ask her, do you like your treats? Are you cute? Are you fat? and she'll meow after each question. She's funny. Everyone here thinks I'm a goof but I don't care. I like talking to my cats. lol.

I've been watching nonstop Hallmark holiday movies. I've recorded so many movies that I missed from last year, it's actually getting out of control, lol!! I still love to watch the ones I do have on dvd like The Christmas Ornament and The Christmas Wish. Candace Cameron Bure's new Christmas movie, Journey Back to Christmas is such a good movie. I believe it's her best one yet. I liked it a lot and can't wait to buy it.

Riley made these two Thanksgiving crafts at school. So cute! Glad he brought them home just in time so I can decorate my home with that colorful turkey.

Have patience with all things,
but first of all, yourself.
-St. Francis de Sales

I gotta remember this for myself sometimes.

In Remembrance of Reagan

October 26, 16 marked the second month of our sweet pea Reagan's death. We kept vigil for an hour. Still can't believe this happened. It's just so sad.
He is so very much alive in our hearts. My mom sent me bouquet money for Reagan. She did this because she loves him and is also mourning along with us. I don't need her money but it is truly a sweet gesture on her part.

Tiny hands and tiny feet
A tiny heart that no longer beats
Everything about you was tiny, so small!
But our love for you is the biggest of all!
Miss you forever sweet guy!

We love you!!!
