Grateful for Simple Pleasures

What are some of the things that you can physically see which bring you peace and joy?

There is so much beauty in the world but I always find myself going back to the water. Mountains can be beautiful and I've seen some very pretty desert sunsets however I would never trade the mountains over the ocean. The smell of the sea, the sound the waves make, and seeing the vastness of the water while I stand on the chore is just so impressive and calming to me. Especially when the sky is cloudy or as the sun is setting, these views are breathtaking. I cannot help but to watch in awe. The other physical things that I deem beautiful are Autumn and then flowers.
One thing I love to see is Jacob being a father to our children. Riley has a special bond with his daddy, just like our other children do as well. Reagan would have fit perfectly into our family. It's so sad to never have the opportunity to love on him and to grow together. Big brother Riley would have been the most loving, overprotective, and playful brother to him. Our lives would definitely have been so different right now and it is during dark days that I find the extra peace that I need when I'm by the water.

Nathan is changing right before my eyes. He's almost as tall as me and I have a feeling he'll pass me up by the end of summer. A few weeks back he decided to go for a whole new look. This year he'll be 17 so naturally he wants to look older. Hopefully he'll continue to be easy going.
These two get along so well and I think that's really sweet ... but you wont find them talking sweet to each other though. They're always goofing around and at times are a bit rough when they verbally joke around. I have to sometimes remind them that they have a six year old that is constantly watching what they do and listening to their every word. I either give them THE  look or I say "hey" and they know to stop.
It's been a fun journey with these two. I thank God that all in all Sydna and Nathan are great kids and as Sydna matures I am seeing a lot of myself in her. I will never stop praying for my children. I fervently pray for my family and in great detail and I am slowly learning to trust Him in all things. I still have a lot of growing to do myself but I'm hoping that my children see the things I've overcome since getting closer to God. I don't care to impress anyone. I'm here to care for my husband, children and loved ones and to live my life in a way that pleases God. All the choices I make I base on biblical principles and I want my children to see that I stand firm on those principles and try to do so with compassion.

Cats. Where do I begin with these annoying, loving, hilarious, don't mess with me attitude felines. I love watching cat videos on Instagram and Facebook, they truly have me laughing. I love their company. I would say I'm a bit like a cat myself. Cats like solitude, they're very observant, they love to nap and when they're in need of love and affection they will seek company for a bit ... then it's back to being by themselves, enjoying their own company. It takes little to make them happy.
I've loved cats since I was a little girl and I've had one ever since.
Sophie got between the blankets when I was making the bed. She didn't stay covered for long.

Reading.
Well, it's no secret I'm a book lover. I've got over 900 books on my to-read list on Goodreads ... and the list keeps growing. Who knows if I'll get to read them all but it sure is exciting knowing there's good books out there, all for my enjoyment and spiritual growth. I have 98 of those on my to-read list sitting on the floor next to my nightstand. Maybe I'll get to buy a bookcase for my bedroom soon.
Sydna also loves to read, she's more into fiction though. She had been telling me about a series she wanted me to read called, The Beyonders and just by looking at the cover I knew it was a book that I really didn't want to read but because she urged me nonstop I finally agreed.
The beginning was very slow and it wasn't until halfway through the book where I felt it got a bit interesting. The second part of the book was fine but I hated the ending. No closure at all in anything and not to mention it took me almost the entire month of April to read it. There's two more books left to read in this series. I told her I would read two of mine before I got started on the second book.

Crafts and coloring.
I enjoy doing crafts with Riley and I also enjoy coloring. Riley is the type of boy that prefers to play or do things with others, he seldom does arts & crafts or play on his own. He says it's boring but I urge him to try it and that playing by himself can be very enjoyable. I want to teach him that he shouldn't rely on people for his happiness, at least not all the time.
Well one day he decided on his own to color one of his ninja turtle coloring pages. He's an interesting boy. Whenever he colors he likes to use a multitude of colors. I actually liked the way it turned out. He's got an interesting imagination. He told me that he was going to give this coloring page to his teacher. I had to take a picture of it before he put it in his backpack.

And for Easter his class made bonnets and hats. Parents donated spring items. I got his class fake flowers and crinkle grass. He was most proud of his Easter hat and still has it all in tact.

I don't let Sophie lay directly on my sheets but on this morning I did just to show you what she thinks of personal space, lol!! She doesn't have a clue what that is. She likes to have body contact. I swear sometimes I think she thinks she's a kid. I had to move her after a while since her butt was close to my face. I also washed my sheets shortly after. Can't stand pet dander.
I do enjoy and love her company though.

So these examples are but a glimpse of the multitude of simple pleasures that I get to enjoy time and time again.
I'm so thankful for all the simple things that bring me so much joy. Making time for myself to enjoy such things is extremely important for my spiritual well-being. I am very grateful for all the things I get to enjoy and I am most aware these joys have been made possible only because God has allowed them to be. It is extra sweet when I get to indulge in them when going through a trying season.

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving,
turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary
opportunities into blessings.
