Jacob found an awesome buttermilk biscuit recipe a couple of months ago. So I asked him if he would make us breakfast. I was craving a ham and egg biscuit sandwich and boy, did he delivered.
He made me a large biscuit and the rest were regular size. And my coffee ... topped it all off. Yum!
I wanted to take my mom and sister to the farm and orchard we go to several times during Summer and Fall. We always end up having a lot of fun when we visit Apple Annie's. The weather there is usually about ten degrees cooler than in Tucson, The mountains are close and the atmosphere is just so relaxing. And so we made the hour and a half drive to Willcox on Saturday.
Sydna and Nathan rode in Tia Claudias car. My mom came along with us.
Glad that the little guy fell asleep most of the drive there and so did my mom, lol. It was a calm drive. Jacob and I talked about the seasons, life, and our plans.
Still a little groggy and really not in the mood to be held by big sister. I'm telling you, Riley is a bit of a brat. I'll admit that. Sometimes he wont go with anyone but me. I just don't understand how an infant can become a brat just by loving on him. I'm a strict parent and when he does things he shouldn't be doing I correct him over and over but he still misbehaves. I know he wont get it just by correcting him once, or twice, or even three times. I'm a firm believer that consistency is the key when it comes to raising a child{ren}. And although it is hard at times I still do not give in to pleas or to avoid tantrums. It's just so weird, embarrassing, and frustrating at times when he behaves like a brat. I think pretty soon I'm gonna have to begin the time out method.

Rarely do I get to take these kind of pictures. When your children are small but out of the infant stage it's easy to tell your kids to hug each other and they are genuinely happy to do so. But once they reach that pre-teen/teenage years and they get those annoying attitudes well, you know they wont want to hug and if for some reason they do they wont be smiling, it'll be more like "hurry up and take that darn picture" type of pose, very unnatural. But this picture is totally unposed. I didn't tell Nathan to hug his sister. This is pure sibling love and I
love it. It's very sweet and even to this date I don't think he was aware that I even took this picture. I hope he always knows that his sister loves him and that he can go to her whenever something is troubling him.
Neither Jacob, Sydna, nor Nathan like insects. Jacob is afraid of spiders and sometimes Nathan is too ... but Sydna is afraid of all insects. She will freak out and cry. Once, we were in my truck and some bug happened to get in from the windows being down and she almost opened the door while the car was in motion. She's crazy!
Another time Jacob was driving my truck around town and we had come to a stop. As he began to drive a dragonfly flew in and almost hit him in the face. Thank God that there were no cars immediately behind us because Jacob stopped the truck in the middle of the street, got out without even thinking and began to wave his arms all over the place because he thought the dragonfly was on him. As he was doing this a car had stopped behind us. I'm sure they thought Jacob was having some weird episode because he totally looked like a total lunatic.
After a few minutes passed we began laughing hard. It was so freaking hilarious! Another thing to add to his book of silly stories.
As we began to walk Sydna immediately pointed out this grasshopper. It was huge.
Ok, so Apple Annie's has two location. This one is where you pick your own vegetables. The produce & pumpkins location. The other location {which is about a 7 mile drive} is the orchard and they also have their country store and where they sell hamburgers, pies, and kettle korn and caramel kettle korn.
Not sure why my intelligent husband wasn't looking at the CAMERA, geesh! Riley was not in the mood to stand on this tractor either. These two are clearly a couple of party poopers.
Our first stop was to pick okra. Jacob and Sydna are the only ones that like it. I've tried it before but wasn't a fan.
Then we stopped to get some bell peppers. My favorite ones are the red ones. They have SO much flavor and bell peppers are so good for you too. Did you know that bell peppers have more vitamin C than an orange?
Even Riley got two little ones for himself.
Mi querida madre {My loving mother}.
But what I came here for aside from the apple crumb pie and showing my mom and sister around was for these poblano peppers that I use to make my delicious chile rellenos. The only problem was that these guys were on the smaller to medium scale. I did not find any large ones.
And yes, I definiley have to get our picture taken when we're here. Love the mountains in the background.
It was SUCH a pleasant day here in Willcox. It was in the mid 70's and very breezy. It was so freeing and for once in about three months we got to really enjoy being outdoors.
Real life ... unscripted.
Nathan being a goofball and Riley pissed off at big sister for picking him up. I know Sydna is constantly watching out for baby brother but she stresses out too much sometimes. Riley was picking up rocks and she got stressed out because she didn't want him to put one in his mouth. Instead of picking him up she should have directed his attention to other things around him so he would forget about the rocks. Oh well. Live and learn.
Once down he was fine and decided it would be better to walk along side of big brother and stay away from the overprotective sister.
Don't worry I always have my eye on him and yes, he's put a rock in his mouth before and I about had a heart attack so now I also don't let him pick up rocks, at least not the little ones.
Ooh, and as we walked back to the cashiers table we came across one of their many pine trees and noticed a whole lot of pinecones on the ground. Immediately, Christmas craft came to mind. Woo hoo!
I have my eye on you boy.
That green patch on the right is where they grow large sunflowers in October. They look so pretty.
Once we had paid for our vegetables we drove seven miles to the orchard. Our only purpose to stop here was for their delicious Apple Crumb Pie. You just have to try it.
My sister said that she's not an apple pie eating person but once she tried this one she loved it and even bought a whole pie to take back with her to San Diego.
They give you such a large portion that two people can eat off one ... but given that they are so good I'm thinking that next time I'm gonna want my own piece of pie and ice cream. Shoot! It's not everyday I get to eat a good pie like this one.
Look at them. Keeping a close eye on another insect. A wasp. So funny.
I don't like kettle korn but when I tried their caramel kettle korn back in mid July I was sold. It is such a yummy treat. I had to get a bag again this time.
I'm happy my mom and sister had a fun time. I knew they would. As we drove away from the produce and pumpkin location we got to see where the pumpkins are growing. Most of them are already about mid size. Can't wait to visit in mid October.
I always love coming home after a long day of outdoor fun. During the hot summer months I like to take a shower as soon as I get home then I dress into comfortable relaxing clothes. Typically we eat out during the weekends so after my shower I brew some dunkin or Jacob does it while I'm in the shower. Then we settle on the couch and watch a movie.
Riley wanted "mama" to read to him. Funny because my mom can't read english, not much of it anyhow so she was just going by from what the pictures were and telling him stories spanish. It didn't bother Riley, he was into it and stayed put until she finished looking through the whole book.
My sister was trying to put the protective liner on Nathan's iPod. I tried doing it once several months ago and I messed it up and so he had bought another one and this time my sister was trying to do it and again she couldn't get it on right. The liner is very stretchy and it's about impossible to not leave fingerprints on it. So I told Nathan that next time we need to go to the Apple store so someone there could do it. I'm sure they're experts on stuff like this.
My mom and sister left Sunday afternoon. It's never fun saying goodbyes. Sydna always gets teary eyed. Poor thing.
I'm really not sure when we'll see my family again. Maybe my mom will visit for Christmas, it's a possibility or my sister and mom will visit in March for Sydna's birthday. This is the worst part about living away from loved ones. But that's why I have this blog so all of our family and friends can see how much the kids are growing and to keep them up to date about what we've been up to.
